As part of its series of interviews with industry specialists in the digital build environment, Autodesk University invited Digital Node Director, Rebecca De Cicco to explain her thoughts on how smart cities can provide a flexible way forward to meet the changing needs of local communities by utilising digital tools.

Sharing the essential concepts and technologies that make cities smart, Rebecca referenced a few start-ups that are supporting transformation and explained the proper methodology for establishing standards and a strategy that is customised for local communities.

Smart cities put digital technologies to work to help citizens, businesses and administrators make better decisions and lead more fulfilling lives.

In London for example, that could mean helping drivers find parking through an app. In Mumbai, it could mean helping people meet basic needs such as food and water. Ultimately, smart cities provide a flexible approach to development that enables governments and institutions to address a range of challenges, from growing urban populations to climate change.

Watch the interview to hear Rebecca discussing how to begin implementing an appropriate smart city agenda, one that can help us prepare for what the future holds.
