When our very own Managing Director, Rebecca De Cicco, founded Women in BIM in 2012, it was with the intention of actively seeking out professional and talented women within the construction industry to represent the extraordinary skill sets and expertise the industry has to offer in the digital built environment.

Seven years on and not only does Women in BIM continue to search for recognised and award-winning women, it focuses on showcasing the advantages of being a woman in construction and strives to have a strong female representation across the globe. Next week, representatives of Women in BIM in the UK will be at Digital Construction Week, the UK’s leading conference and exhibition for innovation and technology in the construction industry.

Next week, representatives of Women in BIM in the UK will be at Digital Construction Week, the UK’s leading conference and exhibition for innovation and technology in the construction industry.

Taking place on 16-17 October at London ExCeL, the event dedicated to digital construction, engineering, design, manufacturing and operation is a “must-attend” for those wanting to get a first look at the latest innovations and cutting-edge technology shaping the future of this dynamic industry.

Women in BIM have been supporting this event for several years and believe it is the perfect place to discover solutions to challenges we face within our industry.

Rebecca commented; “It’s important for us to tell the many amazing career stories of our members and other inspiring women within construction, and events such as DCW allow us to hear from talented women on what they have achieved and how they can motivate others to follow a similar path to success.”

Women in BIM UK Lead and Digital Manager at Multiplex, Vicki Reynolds will take to the stage twice during DCW, firstly on Day 1 where she will take part in a BIM Workshop led by The B1M, exploring the power of standards and the role they play in inter-linking industry actors. And then again on Day 2, in the BIM Village, Vicki will be taking part in a panel debate looking at the cultural impact of implementing BIM in the UK

Also on Day 1, Dr Jenni Barrett, Director and Founder of coLAB and core team member of Women in BIM UK, will be presenting on closing the gap on gender inequality and in her session, Jenni will explore unconscious bias and the differences in workplace psychology between digital and traditional face to face environments. Jenni said; “Our mission is to ensure that businesses within the construction industry, and the people leading them, have every opportunity to thrive, and this means appointing the right people into the right roles based on their skill set and abilities.”

Jenni’s talk will focus on highlighting how construction managers, human resources teams, project teams, and professionals can lever digital construction tools for a more diverse, inclusive, and high performing project team.

On Day 2, Jenni will be joined by Katya Veleva, Associate BIM Strategy Consultant for Archilizer, at the Women in BIM breakfast networking event where these two women of influence, and pioneers in shaping the future of construction for fairness and inclusion, will discuss these topics in more detail, inviting debate and discussion from DCW visitors.

This breakfast session will be hosted by Glider BIM at 8.30am on Thursday 17 October.
