Competing in a digitised construction industry
The face of the AEC sector is changing. If you’re not keeping up with the demands and increasing requests to deliver projects using BIM and the latest technologies, then you’ll likely lose contracts. But, using the in-depth knowledge and training from the experts at Digital Node, we can ensure your teams have the skills to compete in our new digitised environment.
Our training and education programmes are used globally by a plethora of high-end clients including the CIOB, whose academy believe in realising an individual’s potential in a technologically advanced construction industry.
Digital Node’s work with the CIOB Academy began in March 2017, and most recently, we were commissioned by them to create two certification schemes for their members: one for the role of BIM Management, and one for a BIM Technician. These roles cover all areas of BIM and are divided into the managing and technical functions that would be associated with the BIM process.
The certification schemes are in place to support the uptake and development of skills and knowledge in BIM and relate specifically to the UK Government’s Mandate for BIM Level 2. The certification acknowledges the recommended roles, skills and requirements that are in place to support BIM in the UK, in particular, a summary and understanding of the British Standards supporting BIM.
Alongside the certification schemes, Digital Node was commissioned to develop a one-day course for each scheme to sit alongside the certification. The courses are titled BIM Management and BIM Technician and cover all concepts outlined in the BIM certification.
Digital Node’s Director Rebecca De Cicco, who wrote, and regularly delivers the courses, said:
Over the years, I’ve built a close relationship with the CIOB and have recently become a fellow (FCIOB). I’m also a part of the CIOB Digital Technologies and Asset Management special interest group so am delighted to be able to share my knowledge to deliver BIM skills for this highly respected organisation.
Broadly, the courses are developed with the following in mind:
The BIM Management one-day course covers the fundamental processes, principles and information required to work in the BIM Management space. The focus of the one-day course is to discuss the key BIM Management principles such as the ability to manage a UK BIM Level 2 project using PAS 1192-2 and 3 guidance. The course covers areas such as procurement, essential BIM documentation, running a BIM project and the skills and knowledge to be able to deliver on a BIM Level 2 project.
The BIM Technician one day course covers the critical processes, technologies and skills required to work as a BIM Technician. The course introduces delegates to the variety of BIM technologies that exist, and some of the critical tasks necessary to deliver a UK BIM Level 2 project such as Project Information Modelling and supporting key data drops such as COBie across a project.
The CIOB offer in-depth and broad content to members all over the world and the two courses are now being offered in regions outside of the UK.
The skills required to either manage or deliver a BIM project are crucial in today’s construction industry, and therefore education and knowledge must be provided to our industry globally. Our in-depth technical knowledge, forged from years of working in the UK BIM environment means we are at the helm of BIM implementation by organisations, ensuring the industry’s digitised future.
