Digital Node is currently working on a number of live projects, on all of which we are exploring or utilising the Autodesk BIM 360 solution as a framework for a Common Data Environment as well as live model coordination.
As a result of attending an Autodesk event (Connect and Construct) in Sydney this month, we wanted to provide some feedback and insight on the practical application of Autodesk BIM 360 as a Common Data Environment, as well as how it aligns to the ISO 19650 workflow and framework.
We are working with a number of companies who have implemented (or are beginning to implement) BIM 360 Coordinate, Docs and Design, and therefore are excited to see the adoption of cloud based technologies begin to dominate the industry on a global scale.
We all know that the UK is ahead in terms of BIM adoption; however, there is still a lack of understanding when it comes to the application of ISO 19650. This is why education and skills are so important in this space and also communicating to industry across the world how and why this standard can be applied to their projects. This is particularly true in regions who have had little to no guidance in the way of industry standards in BIM.
As we work globally, we see the importance of the application of a Common Data Environment and how it holds the key toward successful project communications. This is why an application such as the Autodesk BIM 360 solution works well in aligning to the structure of a Common Data Environment. Having said this, the way this is controlled and authorised is crucial, as there still needs to be strong leadership across a project to enable the application of a Common Data Environment in line with ISO 19650.
